I’m Taking a Break!

I know, I know; it seems like I just got back from a break as I just published my first post in over a month, what do I mean I’m taking a break?  Well, I had that Let Them Play review teed up and needed to get it done.  But, what I am really excited about for this year involves writing about youth sports coaching, just not necessarily on the blog.

I’m going to write a book!!!

I have thought for a while now that I should collect all my thoughts about youth sports coaching and the Hustle & Attitude philosophy into a book:  The Hustle & Attitude Guide to Coaching Youth SportsCatchy, isn’t it?  I am taking a break from the blog so I can focus my writing on the book.  Now, I might post a draft chapter or two of the book on the blog for comments.  And, if something really big happens in the world of youth sports, I likely won’t be able to go very long without commenting on it – so, perhaps a post here and there.

In addition to the book, I plan to collect all the material I have been writing and researching regarding the future of youth tackle football and write an article called ‘Should My Son Play Tackle Football’ and try to get it published in a magazine like Parents.  I have done a lot of research on the topic and can share my personal story – me playing high school football and the decisions about when my twin sons would play.  I think I have an educated recommendation to make for parents struggling with this question – and there are many, as evidenced by the recent discussions about the future of football.  I wrote a guest post about this on the Flag Football Fanatics blog.

I’m still going to do coaching clinics – in fact, check out my updated About Me page that now includes a link to my YouTube channel and a video that introduces the philosophy and what I’m trying to do.   Speaking of YouTube, I’ve also uploaded a portion of the ‘Dealing with Kids’ section of my flag football coaches clinic from last fall.  You can find the link on the Coaching Clinics page here or on my YouTube channel.

For those of you who have been following the blog, I truly appreciate it.  I have felt I have something to say about youth sport coaching – and I appreciate that you have listened.  Now, I would like to see if what I have to say translates into a book that can help new youth coaches provide positive experiences for our kids.
