High schools against pitch counts?

It is hard for me to believe that, in this day and age – with all we know about arm injuries (and admittedly there is still a lot we don’t know), there are youth sports organizations balking at the idea of pitch count restrictions. Particularly given the lack of hard core research, why wouldn’t we prefer to err on the safe side?

I’d appreciate your thoughts on the subject.

  1. I am definitely in favor of a pitch count upto and maybe including college. Although hopefully college coaches already know the dangers of overworking pitchers. Any youth coach should realize that if all teams are on the same pitch count then every one is on the same level playing field. So if you are a youth coach obsessed with winning, a pitch count won’t stop your chance of winning.
