It’s Clinic Season

It’s that time of year! Yes, the NFL season is kicking off later this week, but that’s not what I mean. I have two client partnerships that I value – and it’s clinic time again.

Flag Football Fanatics

My longest tenured partnership is with one of the largest flag football organizations in the country – Flag Football Fanatics. I’ve offered my position on when children should start playing tackle football – and suggested that flag football is a fantastic alternative. I coached five seasons in the Flag Football Fanatics league, my son is still a site director for one of their locations, and I’ve been doing coaching clinics for them since 2016. Starting with live clinics in their Cincinnati, Columbus, and Dayton leagues for several years, they’ve let me grow and learn how to do a better job of training and educating their coaches on how to have successful seasons. And with my move to Arizona, we added the flexibility of offering live webinars – and good thing, too as that’s the way to provide education during this virus situation.

City of Goodyear Parks and Recreation

Last year, I engaged with my new hometown’s (and old – I went to high school here, but that’s a longer story) department of Parks and Recreation to see if we would be able to work together to education their recreational sports coaches. I am grateful they trusted me to work with them with their sports offerings. In February, I did a volleyball coaching clinic. It was refreshing for me to verify that the key tenets of my philosophy and the best practices I cover in the clinics translate to a sport that I never coached. I also appreciated the opportunity to get smarter on the specific techniques involved with teaching and coaching volleyball. Next up is fall baseball – I AM SO EXCITED TO GET TO DO MY FIRST BASEBALL COACHING CLINIC! I have the most experience coaching youth recreational baseball, including this past summer with my niece’s team. With Goodyear looking to open a fabulous new recreation complex next year, there will be even more opportunities for me to work together with the Parks and Rec department to train up their coaches.

Three webinars this week and one next week and hopefully the leagues have dozens of new and experienced coaches who better understand the rules of their sport, how to plan practices, make line-ups and manage playing time, and deal with parents and referees. In other words, how to have a successful season.

I would love to share these techniques and practices with more leagues and more coaches. The way I coached and train coaches results in the children having a great time, learning the sport, and wanting to come back and play again. If you’re reading this and know of a league that might benefit from my coaching clinics, point them to my Clinics page for more information.
